For the first phase of its advanced memory production complex in Clay, New York, Micron Technology has chosen Bechtel as its engineering, procurement, and construction partner. An important turning point in domestic chip production will be reached when the plant grows to become the biggest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the US.
Following the groundbreaking of its first fabrication factory in January 2026, Micron is now progressing onto the next stage of development with Bechtel’s cooperation. The project is anticipated to have a significant economic impact, including billions of dollars in annual output and income over the ensuing decades, and it is the greatest private investment in New York State’s history.
About 50,000 jobs, including more than 4,500 in construction, are expected to be created by the development. Thousands of skilled workers, contractors, and suppliers will contribute to the facility’s construction during peak activity, and larger ecosystem development will boost regional companies and labour expansion.
With its state-of-the-art semiconductor production facilities, Micron will strengthen American leadership in cutting-edge memory technologies that are essential for the AI era. To ensure efficiency and accuracy, Bechtel will implement an integrated engineering, procurement, and construction approach that makes use of digital project controls, modularization techniques, and cutting-edge construction technology.
The alliance highlights a shared commitment to innovation, execution excellence, and bolstering the resilience of the U.S. semiconductor supply chain, as semiconductor fabrication is one of the most complicated industrial endeavours.
