Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has signed an agreement to acquire IntelliSmart Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., a major player in India’s smart metering sector, in a transaction valued at ₹3,050 crore, strengthening its position in the country’s rapidly expanding digital power infrastructure market.
Adani Energy Solutions has announced the acquisition of a 100% equity stake in IntelliSmart Infrastructure, one of India’s largest smart meter companies, in a move that will significantly expand its presence in the smart metering segment. The deal, valued at ₹3,050 crore, is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
IntelliSmart, a joint venture between the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), is among the country’s leading smart metering operators. The company manages a portfolio of more than 2.2 crore smart meters across Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Assam.
With the acquisition, AESL’s combined smart meter portfolio is expected to exceed 4.7 crore meters, making it India’s largest smart metering platform. The transaction aligns with the company’s strategy to expand its role in power distribution modernization and digital utility infrastructure.
The smart metering sector has emerged as a key component of India’s electricity distribution reforms, supported by government initiatives aimed at improving billing efficiency, reducing power losses and enhancing consumer access to real-time energy usage data. Smart meters are increasingly being deployed by utilities as part of broader grid modernization efforts.
Industry observers view the acquisition as one of the largest recent transactions in India’s smart metering space. By integrating IntelliSmart’s operations with its existing business, AESL is expected to gain greater scale and operational efficiencies while strengthening its ability to participate in upcoming smart meter deployment projects across the country.
The acquisition comes as India accelerates efforts to modernize its power distribution network through advanced metering infrastructure and digital technologies. Growing demand for smart grids and data-driven energy management solutions is expected to drive further investment in the sector over the coming years.
