Reliance and Meta Partner on AI Data Centre Project in Jamnagar

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) and Meta Platforms have announced a partnership to develop an AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre project in India and expanding the companies’ long-standing collaboration in digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.

Reliance Industries and Meta have entered into an agreement to establish a large-scale AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, strengthening India’s growing role in global artificial intelligence infrastructure development. The facility will have an initial capacity of 168 megawatts and is expected to be delivered within two years, with provisions for future expansion.

Under the partnership, Reliance will provide end-to-end services for the project, including design, construction, utility management, renewable energy supply, network connectivity and managed services. Meta will lease capacity at the facility to support its expanding AI and digital infrastructure requirements.

The project represents Meta’s first AI-enabled data centre investment in India and its first built-to-suit data centre arrangement in the country. The social media and technology company said the investment reflects its commitment to one of its largest and fastest-growing markets while helping expand its global AI infrastructure footprint.

According to the companies, the Jamnagar facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, supporting efforts to improve sustainability in data centre operations. Meta will bear the costs associated with the energy and water required to operate the facility.

The agreement deepens a relationship that already spans connectivity, digital commerce and artificial intelligence initiatives. Industry analysts view the partnership as a significant step in India’s ambition to emerge as a global hub for AI infrastructure, supported by rising demand for computing power, cloud services and advanced data centre capacity.

The announcement comes amid increasing investment in hyperscale data centres across India as technology companies expand infrastructure to support AI workloads and rapidly growing digital services. The Jamnagar project is expected to contribute to the country’s expanding digital ecosystem while strengthening access to advanced computing resources.
