Sonam Wangchuk Joins June 6 Protest, Demands Education Minister’s Resignation

New Delhi | June 3, 2026 On June 6, Sonam Wangchuk, a climate activist and education reformer who is well-known for being the inspiration behind the adored Bollywood character “Rancho” from 3 Idiots, will take part in a nonviolent protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Wangchuk’s participation was confirmed by Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, a youth-driven social media movement that has gained a lot of online traction. In an official post, Dipke wrote, “Cockroaches, Rancho will join the peaceful protest on June 6.”

The demonstration is being planned to call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in response to growing worries about exam-related issues that, according to Dipke, have caused anxiety and disillusionment among students nationwide.

Dipke has urged students and supporters across the country to join him in the capital after announcing his return to India on June 6. “If we raise our voices together, they will definitely have to listen to us,” Dipke said in a video address, urging unity and peaceful civic engagement.

He also confirmed that the protest would strictly adhere to constitutional methods and asked supporters to accompany him to the Parliament Street Police Station to formally seek permission for the protest at Jantar Mantar.
