Google has announced a $15 billion investment over five years to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, combining large-scale computing infrastructure, data centre capacity, international connectivity and clean energy initiatives. The project, scheduled for development between 2026 and 2030, marks the company’s largest investment in India to date.
Announced on October 14, 2025, the initiative is intended to support growing demand for cloud computing and AI services in India and overseas. The project is being developed with partners AdaniConneX and Airtel.
Gigawatt-Scale Data Centre Planned
The proposed facility will include a purpose-built data centre campus with gigawatt-scale computing capacity. The infrastructure is designed to support Google’s services and provide businesses with computing resources to develop AI-powered applications, conduct research and expand digital operations.
The project will also draw on technology developed at Google’s research and development centres in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. Once operational, the campus will become part of the company’s international network of AI data centres.
The investment announcement was made at the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, attended by Union ministers and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Subsea Cables to Strengthen Connectivity
A key component of the project is a new international subsea gateway in Visakhapatnam. Multiple international subsea cables are planned to land on India’s eastern coast, linking the city to Google’s global network of terrestrial and undersea cables.
The additional routes are expected to increase international data capacity and provide an alternative to existing cable landing points around Mumbai and Chennai. The improved connectivity is intended to support faster digital services and strengthen the resilience of India’s digital infrastructure.
Clean Energy and Economic Impact
Google said it would work with local partners to develop new electricity transmission lines, clean energy generation capacity and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. These additions are intended to support the hub’s power requirements while contributing to the state’s electricity grid.
An analysis by Access Partnership, commissioned by Google, estimated that the project could generate at least $15 billion in additional US gross domestic product between 2026 and 2030 through increased cloud and AI adoption and the resources involved in developing and operating the hub.
The investment also aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The project places Visakhapatnam at the centre of Google’s plans to expand AI infrastructure, international connectivity and energy capacity in the country.
