New Delhi, India: India’s installed wind power capacity has reached 57,443 MW as of 30 June 2026, while wind energy generation during FY 2025-26 touched 106,699 million units (MUs), reflecting continued growth in the country’s renewable energy sector.

India’s cumulative installed wind power capacity stood at 57,443 MW as of 30 June 2026, according to information released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The government said wind energy continues to play a significant role in expanding the country’s renewable energy portfolio, supported by a series of policy measures and infrastructure initiatives.

During FY 2025-26, India added 6,057 MW of new wind power capacity, taking annual wind energy generation to 106 billion units, or 106,699 million units (MUs). In comparison, the country added 4,151 MW in 2024-25 and 3,253 MW in 2023-24, with wind power generation remaining at 83 billion units in each of those two financial years.

State-wise data shows Gujarat continues to lead the country with an installed wind power capacity of 16,086 MW, followed by Tamil Nadu (12,273 MW), Karnataka (8,896 MW), Maharashtra (6,318 MW) and Rajasthan (5,516 MW). Other major contributors include Andhra Pradesh (4,461 MW) and Madhya Pradesh (3,686 MW). Telangana has 128 MW, Kerala has 71 MW, while Others account for 4 MW, taking the national total to 57,443 MW.

In terms of electricity generation during FY 2025-26, Gujarat produced 33,706 MUs, followed by Tamil Nadu (24,200 MUs), Karnataka (18,804 MUs), Andhra Pradesh (8,902 MUs), Maharashtra (8,610 MUs), Rajasthan (7,345 MUs) and Madhya Pradesh (4,706 MUs). Telangana generated 292 MUs, while Kerala produced 130 MUs, bringing the national total to 106,699 MUs.

The ministry also highlighted several ongoing measures to support wind energy development, including expansion of Green Energy Corridors, revised bidding guidelines, offshore wind initiatives, Green Open Access Rules, Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM), manufacturing support for wind turbines and components, and transmission planning to facilitate greater renewable energy integration.

According to the GWEC Report 2026, India ranked 4th globally in wind energy installations until 31 December 2025.
