JSW Steel has commenced development activities for its integrated steel project in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, with the facility planned to be built in phases through its wholly owned subsidiary, JSW Rayalaseema Steel Ltd. The initiative represents one of the company’s significant manufacturing investments in the state and is expected to strengthen regional industrial infrastructure.
The project launch ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, senior state government officials, public representatives, local stakeholders, and JSW Group Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal, along with other company executives.
According to the company, the steel plant will ultimately have a production capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The first phase involves establishing a 1 MTPA integrated steel facility with a planned investment of ₹4,500 crore. A second phase, with an additional investment of up to ₹11,850 crore, will double production capacity to 2 MTPA, taking the total proposed investment to ₹16,350 crore.
The project is planned around Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, which will use recycled steel scrap and high-grade Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) as key raw materials. The company said the plant will manufacture structural steel while placing emphasis on operational efficiency, resource optimisation and lower carbon emissions as part of its broader sustainability strategy.
JSW Steel stated that the location has been selected with planned road, rail, power and water connectivity to support efficient logistics and long-term industrial operations. The company also expects the project to encourage the growth of ancillary industries, logistics infrastructure and broader economic activity across the Rayalaseema region.
Company officials said the development aligns with India’s expanding manufacturing and infrastructure requirements while contributing to the country’s steelmaking capacity through technology-focused and lower-emission production processes.
