Mumbai: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 100.8-megawatt wind power project in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district, adding to its renewable energy portfolio and strengthening green power supply for Mumbai’s electricity distribution network.

Electricity generated from the Jewali Wind Project will be supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, where it will contribute towards meeting Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) requirements. The commissioning marks another addition to the company’s operational wind energy capacity as it continues to expand its renewable generation assets.

The facility consists of 28 SG 3.6-145 wind turbine generators using horizontal-axis wind turbine technology. According to the company, the project is expected to generate around 299 million units of electricity annually.

TPREL estimates the project will help avoid nearly 245 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions each year, based on an emissions reduction factor of 0.82 kg of CO₂ for every unit of electricity generated.

Following the commissioning, the company’s total wind energy portfolio has crossed 3.9 GW. More than 1.3 GW of this capacity is operational, while the remaining projects are under various stages of development across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The addition of the Jewali project has also increased TPREL’s overall renewable utility capacity to 11.6 GW. Of this, 6.7 GW is currently operational, comprising 5.4 GW of solar capacity and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. Another 4.9 GW is under implementation, including about 2.1 GW of solar projects, 2.6 GW of wind projects and 0.2 GW of battery energy storage systems (BESS), which are scheduled for phased commissioning over the next six to 24 months.

The company said the project forms part of its broader renewable energy expansion strategy and supports its long-term objective of increasing clean energy generation across its portfolio. The new wind farm also contributes additional renewable electricity for Mumbai’s power distribution network while expanding the company’s operational presence in India’s wind energy sector.
