NVIDIA has begun using its in-house Vera CPU to power electronic design automation (EDA) workloads for future processors, with early testing showing up to 1.5 times higher performance in key chip verification and simulation tasks.
The company said the Vera CPU is now being deployed across engineering workflows used to design NVIDIA’s next generation of CPUs and GPUs. The move marks a significant step in using the company’s own processor technology to accelerate semiconductor development while improving efficiency in complex chip design operations.
According to NVIDIA, early production-scale testing demonstrated performance gains of up to 1.5x in verification and simulation workloads, two of the most compute-intensive stages of chip development. The company said the improvement enables engineering teams to complete critical design processes more quickly while supporting increasingly complex processor architectures.
Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools play a central role in semiconductor development by validating chip designs before manufacturing. As processors become larger and more sophisticated, simulation and verification require substantially higher computing resources, making faster infrastructure increasingly important for reducing development timelines.
NVIDIA said Vera is designed to improve these engineering workloads by delivering stronger CPU performance for demanding simulation environments. The processor is expected to support faster execution of verification tasks, helping engineers identify and resolve design issues earlier in the development cycle.
The deployment also reflects NVIDIA’s broader strategy of integrating its own hardware across multiple stages of product development. Beyond supporting AI infrastructure, the company is now using Vera internally to design future generations of computing platforms, reinforcing the role of custom CPUs within its semiconductor roadmap.
