NVIDIA has agreed to acquire AI platform Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000, bringing one of the largest open-model communities into NVIDIA as the chipmaker expands its position across the artificial intelligence ecosystem.
NVIDIA announced the agreement on September 3, 2026, saying the transaction will focus on scaling Hugging Face’s platform, strengthening its infrastructure and expanding access to AI for developers and institutions worldwide.
Hugging Face has developed into a major platform for developers, researchers and creators working with open AI models. More than 18 million developers, researchers and creators use the platform to share more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications.
The platform is also used by more than 200,000 companies, which rely on Hugging Face to discover, evaluate, customise and deploy AI technologies.
NVIDIA said Hugging Face will continue operating as an open platform for the broader AI ecosystem following the acquisition. Developers will remain able to choose the models, frameworks, cloud providers, inference services and computing platforms they prefer.
The announcement also makes clear that NVIDIA’s hardware will not be a requirement for building or deploying applications through Hugging Face. The platform will continue supporting open-source and open-weight models from different model developers.
Multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development and deployment will also remain part of Hugging Face’s approach, allowing developers to select the computing infrastructure that best fits their requirements.
NVIDIA said it has been investing in open AI models and open-source platforms for several years, including Hugging Face. The company is currently described as the largest contributor of open models and data to the platform.
NVIDIA has released more than 500 models and more than 250 open datasets on Hugging Face. The company said these contributions are part of its effort to make models, data, libraries and tools available for developers to use, modify and build upon.
For NVIDIA, the acquisition would extend its presence beyond accelerated computing hardware into a platform used across the AI development lifecycle. For Hugging Face, the deal brings access to NVIDIA’s resources as it continues building infrastructure for its growing developer and enterprise community.
The announcement did not provide further financial or transaction-completion details beyond the agreed acquisition value of $12,930,300,000.
