Hyundai Motor Group plans to invest US$15.5 billion in India between 2026 and 2032, expanding its manufacturing operations, research capabilities and local supplier network as it strengthens the country’s role in its global automotive strategy.
The investment plan was announced on October 13, 2026, following a meeting in New Delhi between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung. The seven-year programme will cover production capacity, research and development (R&D), supply-chain localisation and emerging mobility technologies. <Cite refs={[“turn168325search0”]}/>
The group intends to increase manufacturing capacity at Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Kia India to accommodate future demand. It also aims to develop India further as an export base for vehicles supplied to international markets.
Research and technology development form another part of the plan. Hyundai Motor Group has outlined an investment of approximately US$700 million in its Indian R&D centre, including a vehicle testing track. The programme is expected to support the development of automotive technologies and strengthen local engineering capabilities.
The company also plans to work more closely with Indian component suppliers to increase parts localisation and build a more resilient supply chain. In future mobility, its areas of interest include support for promising startups, new mobility services, specialised automotive financing, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and end-of-life vehicle recycling. <Cite refs={[“turn168325search0”]}/>
To coordinate the programme, Hyundai Motor Group will establish a dedicated investment entity in India. The organisation will oversee investments across research, future technologies and the wider automotive ecosystem, while helping identify local partners and suppliers.
The group currently employs more than 24,000 people in India. It expects the planned investment to generate additional employment across manufacturing, engineering, research and supply-chain operations, alongside opportunities created through supplier partnerships and mobility-related businesses.
Hyundai Motor Group has annual vehicle production capacity exceeding 1.4 million units in India. This includes Hyundai facilities in Chennai and Pune, as well as Kia’s plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The Pune facility’s capacity is scheduled to increase in phases. <Cite refs={[“turn168325search0”]}/>
