CTIL Launches Guidebook to Help Indian MSMEs Expand Global Exports

New Delhi: The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has introduced a new guidebook designed to support Indian MSMEs in navigating global markets. Titled “Going Global: A Practical Guide for Indian MSMEs,” the publication was launched in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Developed as a practical resource, the guidebook seeks to help MSMEs identify export opportunities, understand market access requirements, make use of publicly available trade intelligence tools, meet international standards and sustainability requirements, and improve overall export preparedness.

According to CTIL, the publication addresses several challenges commonly faced by small businesses, including limited access to market information, difficulties in identifying overseas buyers, compliance with international certifications, and maintaining competitiveness in global markets. It also offers guidance on understanding market analysis, locating buyers, and using freely available resources to reduce the cost of export research.

The launch was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Sumanta Chaudhuri, Principal Advisor, International Trade Policy Division, CII. The discussion featured Ridhish Rajvanshi, Senior Research Fellow at CTIL; Dr. Animesh Saxena, Managing Director of Neetee Apparels and Past President of FISME; and Nalin Kohli, Chairman of Araina Group.

Panelists discussed ways Indian MSMEs can benefit from India’s Free Trade Agreements by effectively using Rules of Origin and other cooperation mechanisms. The conversation also explored strategies for identifying export destinations, complying with international standards and certifications, positioning products for global demand, and improving competitiveness through diversification and value addition.

The event also included a presentation by Tanvi Praveen, Consultant at CTIL, on the Trade Remedies Advisory Cell (TRAC). The session highlighted the advisory body’s role in raising awareness of trade remedy laws and providing guidance on issues related to unfair trade practices and import surges affecting domestic industries.

The programme brought together policymakers, industry representatives, trade experts and MSME stakeholders to discuss practical measures for strengthening India’s export ecosystem. The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session focused on export readiness, standards compliance, market access, and the importance of institutional support and industry partnerships for expanding the global presence of Indian MSMEs.
