AESL Secures ₹4,700 Crore Maharashtra Power Transmission Project

AESL wins a ₹4,700 crore Maharashtra transmission project to evacuate up to 4,500 MW of renewable and pumped-storage power.

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has secured a transmission project in Maharashtra estimated at ₹4,700 crore, aimed at evacuating up to 4,500 MW of renewable and pumped-storage power and strengthening electricity flows between the southern and western regions.

AESL emerged as the lowest bidder for the project through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process. The scheme, named “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4500 MW) – Part A”, will be implemented through the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd.

The company is expected to complete the project within 36 months. Once developed, the transmission system will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio.

A key component of the project is a new 765/400 kV substation at Satara. The planned infrastructure will also include a 765 kV double-circuit transmission line between Kolhapur and Satara, along with augmentation of the existing Kolhapur pooling station and other associated facilities.

The project is designed to support the evacuation of renewable power generated in Karnataka to major electricity demand centres in Maharashtra. It will also cater to pumped-storage potential in the Satara, Pune and Mumbai Metropolitan Region areas.

AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said pumped-storage projects are becoming important for integrating large-scale renewable generation into the electricity grid. He said the transmission network planned under the project would support both renewable power evacuation and energy storage deployment.

With the addition of the new project, AESL’s transmission portfolio will rise to 29,739 circuit kilometres and 1,43,425 MVA of transformation capacity. The company’s transmission order book is now valued at approximately ₹85,000 crore.

The project comes as India expands its non-fossil energy capacity, increasing the need for transmission infrastructure capable of connecting renewable generation and storage facilities with major consumption centres.
