AESL Bags Rs 8,500 Crore Andhra Pradesh Transmission Project

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has secured an inter-state transmission project worth about Rs 8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh, aimed at supplying power to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag region.

The project, awarded under the Centre’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding framework, will cater to an estimated power demand of 4,500 MW. AESL emerged as the most competitive bidder for the first phase of the transmission system planned for the Vizag area.

The project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd. Its scope includes a 4×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV gas-insulated substation at Pendurthi in Vizag and a 3×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II.

The project will add 1,582 circuit km of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s network. Once incorporated, the company’s overall transmission network will reach 29,531 circuit km, while its transformation capacity will rise to 1,33,675 MVA. Its transmission order book will stand at more than Rs 80,000 crore.

The transmission infrastructure is also expected to serve rising electricity requirements in the Pendurthi-Vizag region, where data centre and digital infrastructure investments are developing.

AESL CEO Kandarp Patel said the project would support green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the electricity grid for emerging digital infrastructure demand in the region.

The company said the project is scheduled for completion within 30 months.

The announcement comes as Vizag is being positioned for new industrial and digital infrastructure, including proposed AI and hyperscale data centres, subsea connectivity and related logistics and clean-energy facilities. The planned transmission system is intended to provide the high-capacity grid infrastructure required as these developments expand.
