ABB has signed an agreement to acquire Norway-based marine automation specialist Høglund AS, expanding its capabilities in vessel automation and digital solutions. The acquisition is expected to strengthen ABB’s presence across the global maritime industry by adding Høglund’s integrated automation expertise to its existing Marine & Ports business.
ABB has announced plans to acquire Høglund AS, a marine automation company headquartered in Tønsberg, Norway. The proposed transaction is intended to broaden ABB’s automation offering for shipowners and operators while supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy in the marine sector. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Founded in Norway, Høglund develops integrated automation systems, energy management technologies and cargo control solutions for a wide range of vessel types. Its automation platforms are currently deployed on more than 600 ships worldwide, serving customers across commercial shipping and offshore industries. By bringing these capabilities into its portfolio, ABB aims to offer a more comprehensive suite of marine automation solutions to customers navigating increasing demands for operational efficiency, digitalisation and lower emissions.
Once the acquisition is completed, Høglund will become part of ABB’s Marine & Ports division. The combined expertise is expected to enhance ABB’s ability to deliver integrated automation, electrical and digital technologies for vessels operating across multiple market segments. The transaction also supports ABB’s strategy of expanding software-driven solutions that help ship operators improve performance, safety and energy efficiency.
The agreement covers Høglund’s global operations, including its workforce of more than 80 employees located across Norway, Poland, Romania and China. ABB indicated that the acquisition will preserve Høglund’s specialist engineering capabilities while providing access to ABB’s international customer base and marine technology ecosystem.
The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026. Following completion, ABB expects the acquisition to reinforce its position in marine automation as demand continues to grow for connected, digitally enabled vessel operations and integrated control systems across the global shipping industry.
