New Delhi, India: The Government has announced a new task force to accelerate the growth of India’s toy industry and support its ambition of capturing 5% of the global toy market by 2032. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal unveiled the initiative at the stakeholder conference titled “Team Up for Toys: Driving SCALE, Innovation and Exports”, organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the task force will focus on six priority areas: integrating Indian manufacturers into global value chains, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, addressing value chain bottlenecks, developing a skilled workforce, promoting design and innovation, and improving the ease of doing business.

The event also marked the launch of the Toy Sector Playbook, a comprehensive guide intended for manufacturers, startups, MSMEs, investors and entrepreneurs. The publication provides practical guidance on manufacturing ecosystems, value chains, quality standards, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, product innovation, exports and emerging market opportunities.

Addressing industry representatives, Piyush Goyal said India’s toy sector reflects the country’s growing manufacturing capabilities combined with creativity, innovation and cultural heritage. He highlighted the increasing international demand for Indian-made toys and called for greater investment in advanced manufacturing, deeper localisation, stronger branding and higher quality standards to build globally competitive Indian toy brands.

The Minister also highlighted the impact of government initiatives, including BIS certification, cluster development programmes and support measures for MSMEs and startups, which have contributed to the sector’s growth.

During the event, Rajat Kaji, Joint Secretary, SCALE, DPIIT, noted that India’s toy ecosystem currently includes more than 21,000 MSMEs, over 770 DPIIT-recognised startups, nearly 50 toy clusters, and more than 1,800 BIS licence holders. He said the industry was among the earliest sectors identified for focused intervention under the Government’s value addition and employment initiatives.

Stakeholders from across the toy ecosystem, including policymakers, manufacturers, startups, investors, artisans and designers, also discussed measures to scale manufacturing, strengthen domestic supply chains, improve quality standards, attract investments and expand exports.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the Government’s objective of making India not only a manufacturing hub for toys but also a global centre for toy design, innovation and branding.
