Lightrock Growth Fund I has partially realised its investment in Kauvery Hospitals, selling part of its holding to the hospital chain’s promoters while retaining a significant ownership position in the healthcare group.
The transaction was announced by Lightrock on August 13, 2026. The investment firm said it will continue to support Kauvery Hospitals as the company enters its next phase of expansion.
Kauvery was founded in 1999 and began operations with a 30-bed hospital in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. The healthcare provider has since expanded into a multi-specialty hospital network with more than 12,000 employees, 13 facilities and over 2,500 beds across six cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Lightrock first invested in Kauvery in August 2019. Since then, the investor has worked with the hospital group on expanding its network, strengthening clinical capabilities and increasing access to healthcare services across South India. Lightrock has also participated in the company’s strategic oversight through a board seat currently held by Samir Abhyankar, its Partner and Head of India.
The partial exit comes as Kauvery outlines further expansion plans. Founder and Executive Chairman Dr. S. Chandrakumar said the group is targeting 5,000 beds and entry into new cities, while maintaining the clinical standards established across its existing network.
Founder and Managing Director Dr. S. Manivannan highlighted the role of clinical protocols, patient-safety systems and accreditation standards in maintaining consistency as the hospital network grows.
Lightrock Growth Fund I closed with commitments of $900 million in June 2021 and invests in growth-stage businesses across Europe, Latin America and India.
Lightrock said its continued ownership reflects its intention to remain involved with Kauvery’s long-term development rather than fully exit the investment.
