An Indo-German AI Lab Project in Shibpur to Promote MSME Innovation

The Indo-German Living Lab Initiative was started by the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the goal of enhancing AI-driven innovation and industrial cooperation between Germany and India.
The workshop, which took place on May 7 at the IIEST Shibpur campus, concentrated on fostering collaborations between German SMEs, Indian MSMEs, research institutions, and industrial ecosystems. The effort, which was organized by the institute’s Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC), emphasized how smart manufacturing, Industry 4.0 technologies, and artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly important in promoting sustainable industrial growth.
The effort is being supported by two National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and the Ministry of Education.
Stronger Indo-German cooperation could open up new avenues for innovation, entrepreneurship, and advanced manufacturing, according to IIEST Shibpur Director V M S R Murthy.
Two IIEST Shibpur faculty members will travel to Germany as part of the roadmap to research industrial automation techniques and SME innovation ecosystems. Following the completion of bilateral agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, the program is anticipated to formally start in early 2027.
