Consumer healthcare company Haleon has announced a major investment in India, including a new manufacturing facility and expanded rural distribution initiatives aimed at improving access to everyday healthcare products in underserved communities.
Haleon, the maker of brands such as Sensodyne and Parodontax, plans to invest approximately £175 million (around ₹2,000 crore) in India as part of a broader strategy to expand healthcare access and strengthen its presence in one of its fastest-growing markets. The investment includes the construction of a new oral health manufacturing facility in Madhya Pradesh and a significant push into rural distribution networks.
The new facility, which will be Haleon’s first manufacturing site in India, is expected to support growing domestic demand while also supplying products to markets across Asia. The project forms part of the company’s long-term goal of reaching one billion more consumers globally by 2030, with India identified as a key growth market.
According to Haleon, India’s consumer health sector is projected to exceed £23 billion by 2030, driven by rising awareness of preventive healthcare and self-care practices. The company said it aims to extend access to its healthcare portfolio to more than three million retail outlets across the country by the end of the decade.
A major focus of the initiative is improving healthcare availability in rural communities. Haleon plans to expand its “last-mile” distribution network and increase the availability of affordable healthcare products, including lower-cost oral care offerings designed for price-sensitive consumers. The company said the strategy is intended to reach hundreds of millions of additional consumers who currently face barriers to accessing healthcare products and information.
The announcement reflects a broader trend among multinational consumer healthcare companies increasing investments in emerging markets. Industry observers note that India has become one of Haleon’s fastest-growing markets, supported by rising incomes, expanding healthcare awareness and growing demand for wellness products.
The manufacturing project is expected to create around 500 jobs and further strengthen India’s role in Haleon’s global supply chain and growth strategy.
