On Wednesday, Google announced an investment of ₹85 crore, or around $10 million, to Wadhwani AI, a non-profit organization, to help integrate AI into India’s government-run education and training systems. 

By the end of 2027, the program hopes to help around one million early-career workers, 1.8 million educators, and roughly 75 million pupils. Google claims that the initiative would improve learning opportunities from early childhood education to higher education by boosting current public digital infrastructure like the POSHAN Tracker and SWAYAM. 

Preeti Lobana, vice-president and country manager of Google India, stated, “We aim to build on India’s great public platforms and deliver high-quality learning outcomes at scale.” The program will use voice-based AI to enhance oral reading fluency in ten Indian languages, she continued, adding that it has already reached about ten million kids and instructors. 

Additionally, Google revealed a new Gemini-powered feature that allows students to take JEE Main mock exams using AI-driven tools. This feature was created in partnership with edtech platforms PhysicsWallah and Careers360. 

In order to create India’s first AI-enabled institution, the company also announced agreements with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh institution (CCSU), Meerut.

The project will employ Google Cloud and Gemini to offer administrators automated workflows, instructors AI-assisted content development, students skill-gap assessments, and individualized AI tutors. According to Google, 95% of users reported feeling more confident and having better academic and job security, making India the country that uses Gemini for learning.
