Henkel Completes Acquisition of Specialty Coatings Firm Stahl

Henkel completes its acquisition of Stahl, a specialty coatings company with €725 million in 2025 adjusted sales and 1,800 employees worldwide.

Düsseldorf, October 1, 2026: German chemicals and consumer goods group Henkel has completed its acquisition of Netherlands-based specialty coatings company Stahl, bringing the business fully under its ownership following regulatory approvals and the fulfilment of other closing conditions.

Stahl specialises in high-performance coatings for flexible materials and serves customers across the mobility, fashion and lifestyle, luxury goods and packaging sectors. Its product portfolio includes leather finishing solutions, performance coatings and coatings for packaging applications.

The company employs around 1,800 people worldwide and reported adjusted sales of €725 million in fiscal year 2025, according to Henkel. The acquisition expands Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business into specialty coatings, adding products and technical capabilities for existing and new markets.

Henkel said the transaction is intended to broaden its range of materials and solutions by combining Stahl’s coating technologies with its established adhesives business. Stahl’s expertise in customised formulations and its service-oriented operating model were among the factors behind the acquisition, the company said.

Henkel Chief Executive Officer Carsten Knobel described the deal as part of the group’s broader growth strategy. He noted that the acquisition strengthens Adhesive Technologies and creates opportunities to expand its product offering across additional end markets.

Mark Dorn, Executive Vice President and head of Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business, said Stahl’s technical expertise and focus on sustainability complement Henkel’s existing capabilities. The combined business is expected to offer customers a wider range of materials solutions, according to the company.

The Stahl transaction is the third acquisition Henkel has completed in its Adhesive Technologies division in 2026. The other two are ATP Adhesive Systems and Wetherby Laroc. Together, the three transactions account for approximately €1 billion in combined sales, Henkel said.

With the deal now closed, Stahl becomes part of Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies operations. The company expects the expanded portfolio to support growth across its established markets and create opportunities in adjacent categories.

The completion follows the regulatory and other conditions required for the transaction, which became effective on October 1, 2026.
