New Delhi: Global logistics company Maersk has introduced its first shipping container manufactured in India, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to strengthen domestic maritime manufacturing. The unveiling was accompanied by a fresh order for 1,000 additional containers from DCM Shriram Group, signalling the start of a broader commercial partnership.
The first India-manufactured export-import (EXIM) shipping container was unveiled by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighting the government’s push to expand local manufacturing capabilities in the maritime sector. Built to international quality and safety standards, the container is designed for global shipping operations and reflects India’s growing focus on reducing dependence on imported logistics equipment.
Following the launch, Maersk confirmed an order for 1,000 additional containers, reinforcing its commitment to sourcing from Indian manufacturers. The company said the latest order marks the beginning of a long-term commercial relationship with DCM Shriram Group, which produced the inaugural container.
