YKK India to Invest $150 Million in New Chennai Manufacturing Facility

YKK India Private Limited, the Indian arm of Japan-based YKK Corporation, has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility at Origins by Mahindra in Chennai, marking a significant expansion of its operations in India.

The project will be developed within the integrated industrial cluster operated by Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Limited (MIPCL), a joint venture between Mahindra World City Developers Limited and Sumitomo Corporation of Japan. According to the announcement, the facility will cover approximately 149,936 square metres and involve a total investment of USD 150 million. Construction is expected to be completed by February 2028.

The upcoming plant will be YKK India’s third manufacturing facility in the country. The company, known for producing fastening products for the apparel, textile and industrial sectors, said the new unit will support both domestic demand and export-oriented manufacturing activities.

The investment adds to the growing list of international manufacturers operating at Origins by Mahindra, including companies such as Mitsubishi Electric, Yanmar and Omron. The industrial park has emerged as a destination for global manufacturing investments seeking access to India’s expanding industrial ecosystem.

YKK India stated that the facility will incorporate the company’s advanced manufacturing technologies and benefit from the industrial park’s infrastructure, plug-and-play facilities, sustainability-focused ecosystem and connectivity. The project is expected to strengthen supply chain efficiency and support long-term manufacturing growth.

Commenting on the development, Vikram Goel, Chief Business Officer – Industrial, Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited, said the investment reflects increasing confidence among global manufacturers in India’s industrial capabilities and growth prospects. He noted that companies expanding their production networks are looking for locations that can support scale, operational efficiency and long-term business growth.

Origins by Mahindra, Chennai, is located on NH16 and falls within the influence zones of the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) and the Chennai-Visakhapatnam Industrial Corridor (CVIC). Its proximity to key industrial centres, ports and logistics infrastructure is expected to support manufacturing operations and supply chain requirements.
