Mumbai, India: Tata Communications has announced a major investment to strengthen digital connectivity between India and Singapore, expanding its subsea cable infrastructure to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and data-intensive enterprise applications across the region.
Tata Communications is expanding its digital infrastructure between India and Singapore with new investments in subsea cable capacity, a move aimed at creating an AI-ready connectivity corridor linking two of Asia’s rapidly growing technology ecosystems.
The initiative focuses on strengthening the company’s Tata Global Network (TGN) by adding new international subsea connectivity between Mumbai, Chennai and Singapore. The upgraded network is intended to provide enterprises with higher-capacity, low-latency and resilient digital infrastructure as AI workloads continue to increase.
As part of the expansion, Tata Communications will integrate the MIST cable system connecting Mumbai and Singapore by acquiring 20 Tbps of capacity. The company is also participating as a consortium member in Project CS, a new subsea cable linking Chennai and Singapore that will contribute an additional 78 Tbps of capacity. Together, the projects will add approximately 98 Tbps to the India-Singapore digital corridor.
The company said the investment reflects the rapid growth in demand for AI computing, cloud platforms, hyperscale data centres and cross-border digital services. The enhanced network is expected to support enterprises handling large volumes of data while improving reliability and performance for mission-critical applications.
Beyond international connectivity, the expanded infrastructure will provide seamless access to more than 100 data centres across India through Tata Communications’ terrestrial network. The company also plans to strengthen its IZO connectivity portfolio with features such as self-healing network capabilities, always-on availability and on-demand provisioning to improve business continuity.
According to Tata Communications, the MIST cable system is expected to be ready for service in Q4 FY27, while Project CS is targeted for completion in Q3 FY31.
The investment underlines the company’s long-term strategy of building future-ready digital infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of AI-driven business operations. By expanding network capacity between India and Singapore, Tata Communications aims to provide enterprises with the connectivity needed to manage increasingly data-intensive workloads while supporting the region’s evolving digital economy.
