India and Sweden have held a bilateral dialogue to identify areas for cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation and industrial technology, bringing together government representatives, technology companies and industry stakeholders from both countries.
The discussion took place on September 7 at Electronics Niketan in New Delhi under the Sweden-India Technology and AI Corridor (SITAC). The meeting was organised by the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), with participation from the Embassy of Sweden in India, Business Sweden and Swedish companies.
IndiaAI Mission CEO Saurabh Vijay highlighted the complementary strengths of the two countries, pointing to Sweden’s industrial, research and advanced manufacturing capabilities and India’s scale, digital public infrastructure and AI talent base. Sweden’s Deputy Head of Mission, Agnes Julin, said the two sides were seeking to expand business opportunities in AI and electronics through cooperation involving trade, regulation and startups.
During the meeting, IndiaAI outlined the country’s AI ecosystem and digital roadmap, including priorities such as computing capacity, datasets and models, indigenous and domain-specific AI, application development, future skills, startup financing and Safe & Trusted AI. The discussions also examined conditions affecting enterprise AI adoption, including data governance, localisation, responsible AI and market access.
The Swedish delegation was led by Johnny Eriksson, Market Manager at Business Sweden. Companies including Autoliv, Consat, IKEA, Saab, Sandvik AI, Sandvik Intelligent Manufacturing, SKF and Volvo Group took part in the discussions.
Indian participants included representatives from Tech Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Zenteiq, Avataar AI, Innefu, CoRover.ai, Gnani and Globals ITES. The talks examined potential collaboration in industrial AI, trusted data, computing, skills and responsible AI.
The meeting also explored possible pilots, testbeds, co-development initiatives, commercial partnerships and other forms of industry engagement based on enterprise and industrial requirements. According to the PIB release, the SITAC discussions are expected to support continued cooperation between India and Sweden in AI and digitalisation.
