Cognizant has announced a new cybersecurity initiative with OpenAI that brings frontier AI capabilities into enterprise security operations, helping organizations move more quickly from identifying software vulnerabilities to validating and testing remediation before deployment.
The collaboration marks an expansion of Cognizant’s Frontier AI Cyber Defense services, where the company is applying GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber to strengthen enterprise security workflows. As a participant in the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program, Cognizant aims to help businesses accelerate defensive operations while maintaining human oversight throughout the process.
The initiative focuses on addressing one of the biggest challenges in modern cybersecurity: closing the gap between discovering software vulnerabilities and successfully fixing them. Rather than limiting AI to identifying potential issues, the solution is designed to support security teams through multiple stages, including vulnerability validation, secure code review, threat modelling, detection engineering, threat hunting, incident response, and patch verification.
According to Cognizant, the AI-powered capabilities are intended to integrate into existing enterprise security environments instead of replacing established governance and monitoring processes. Human review remains a central part of every workflow to ensure that remediation decisions continue to be guided by cybersecurity professionals.
The company also revealed that it has been deploying these capabilities within its own security operations before extending them to customers. Operating as its own “Client Zero,” Cognizant has used GPT-5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber across internal software repositories, security reviews, vulnerability validation and CI/CD workflows. The operational experience gained internally is expected to inform future enterprise deployments.
OpenAI said the partnership is designed to help organizations operationalize advanced AI within trusted cybersecurity processes while maintaining appropriate governance and responsible deployment practices. The collaboration is built around scoped access, continuous monitoring and human supervision to ensure the technology is used by verified defenders.
Cognizant noted that its cybersecurity practice includes more than 5,000 security professionals serving organizations across regulated industries. By combining that expertise with frontier AI capabilities, the company expects to help enterprises shorten remediation timelines and strengthen software security at scale as cyber threats continue to evolve.
