IndiGo has entered into a landmark agreement with CFM International to secure more than 1,000 LEAP-1A engines for its expanding Airbus A320neo family fleet, marking the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines. The memorandum of understanding was announced during the Farnborough International Airshow and will power 510 Airbus A320neo family aircraft ordered by the airline.
Beyond engine supply, the agreement includes CFM’s support in establishing IndiGo’s upcoming engine Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India. The companies will also enter into a long-term material services arrangement covering spare parts supply and maintenance support aimed at improving fleet availability and providing predictable operating costs as the airline continues its expansion.
The latest agreement builds on a decade-long relationship between the airline and CFM International. IndiGo first operated Airbus A320ceo aircraft powered by CFM56-5B engines in 2016 before expanding its partnership in 2019 by selecting LEAP-1A engines for its Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleet. Today, the airline operates more than 375 CFM-powered Airbus A320 and A321 family aircraft.
According to IndiGo, the new agreement supports the airline’s long-term fleet growth strategy while strengthening operational reliability and efficiency. CFM said the LEAP engine has demonstrated improved durability and fuel efficiency, particularly in demanding operating environments, making it well suited for the airline’s rapidly growing network.
The agreement also reinforces CFM International’s presence in India’s aviation sector. The joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines continues to expand its manufacturing, engineering and service capabilities in the country as demand for commercial aviation grows.
The record engine order reflects IndiGo’s continued investment in fleet expansion while supporting the development of domestic aircraft maintenance capabilities through its planned MRO facility, which is expected to play a key role in servicing the airline’s growing fleet over the coming years.
