New Delhi, India: India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programmes for the automobile, auto components and advanced battery storage sectors continue to attract investments and expand manufacturing capacity, according to data shared by the Ministry of Heavy Industries in Parliament.
The government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Component Industry has attracted ₹44,326 crore in cumulative investment as of March 31, 2026, while generating 67,820 jobs, according to information presented in the Lok Sabha.
The scheme, approved in September 2021 with a budgetary outlay of ₹25,938 crore, was introduced to strengthen domestic manufacturing of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products and enhance India’s competitiveness in the global automotive sector. During the same period, the government has disbursed ₹2,386.36 crore as incentives under the programme.
The ministry also shared progress under the PLI Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage, which was approved in May 2021 with a total outlay of ₹18,100 crore to establish 50 GWh of battery manufacturing capacity.
According to beneficiary firms, the ACC scheme has attracted ₹75,180 crore in investment and generated direct employment for 1,277 people as of March 31, 2026.
State-wise data shows that 225 manufacturing units have been established under the Auto PLI scheme across India. Maharashtra leads with 66 units, followed by Tamil Nadu (38), Haryana (35) and Karnataka (28). Other states hosting manufacturing facilities include Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Kerala, Punjab and Puducherry.
For battery manufacturing, four projects have received a combined allocation of 40 GWh. The approved projects include ACC Energy Storage Pvt. Ltd. in Karnataka with 5 GWh, Ola Cell Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in Tamil Nadu with 20 GWh, Reliance New Energy Battery Storage Ltd. in Gujarat with 5 GWh, and Reliance New Energy Battery Ltd. in Gujarat with 10 GWh.
The update was provided by Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, outlining the implementation status of both PLI programmes as of March 2026.
