Schneider Electric has introduced a new fully integrated battery energy storage system (BESS), combining electrical infrastructure with digital control technologies for utility-scale and behind-the-meter applications. The company announced the platform at its Innovation Summit India 2026.

The cell-to-grid-to-cell BESS is designed around a battery-agnostic, power-conversion-system (PCS)-forward architecture, allowing it to work with different battery providers. Schneider Electric said the approach is intended to simplify system integration, support interoperability and shorten commissioning timelines.

The platform combines medium- and low-voltage switchgear, SF₆-free AirSeT switchgear, GIS/AIS equipment, inverter-duty transformers and AC/DC protection and control systems. Its digital layer includes an Energy Management System (EMS), Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS), Power Plant Controller (PPC) and microgrid control.

According to the company, the EMS can manage charging and dispatch using real-time forecasts, tariffs and market signals. DERMS is designed to coordinate multiple storage installations, while the PPC provides grid-code-compliant control at the point of interconnection. Microgrid controls support both grid-connected and islanded operation.

Schneider Electric said the system is being developed as a finance-ready asset, with Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) engagement and customised architectures intended to address project risks and lifecycle performance. The platform is also supported by ETAP-based design tools and digital services such as Asset Advisor and Microgrid Advisor.

The company said the storage system can support applications including peak shaving, load shifting, time-of-use optimisation and renewable energy firming. These functions are intended to help utilities, renewable energy developers and commercial and industrial users manage changing grid conditions and energy demand.

Deepak Sharma, Zone President–Greater India and MD & CEO of Schneider Electric India, said energy storage would play a central role in maintaining grid stability as renewable energy deployment expands.

The company’s launch comes as India continues to scale renewable generation, increasing the need for flexible storage and grid-management capabilities.
