New Delhi, India: India hosted the eighth BRICS Youth Energy Summit 2026 virtually on August 17 under its BRICS Chairship, bringing together more than 100 young energy professionals, academics and representatives from government and energy institutions across member countries.

The summit placed youth participation at the centre of energy cooperation, with discussions focusing on energy security, sustainability, access and technological innovation. Representatives of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency, Sustainable Energy for All, the International Solar Alliance and the International Renewable Energy Agency also took part.

India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026 is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, while the energy track carries the theme “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्” or “Energy for All”. The theme reflects India’s focus on universal, affordable and inclusive access to energy across BRICS countries.

More than 20 youth panelists shared perspectives and experiences under three priority areas: energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation. Discussions covered diversification of energy sources, resilient supply chains, energy access, financing, emerging technologies and digitalisation of energy systems.

Participants highlighted the need for energy systems that are resilient, diversified and capable of providing affordable access. The discussions also identified technology, digitalisation, reliable energy data, interoperability, cybersecurity and skilled workers as important factors in building flexible and efficient energy systems.

Indian youth representatives presented initiatives including PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar, SHANTI Act, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and the India Energy Stack. They also outlined India’s experience in expanding renewable energy, strengthening distribution infrastructure and advancing digitalisation.

The summit also highlighted the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence on Smart Grids and Energy Storage as a platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building and cooperation in areas such as grid resilience and energy storage.
