Novonesis will invest €600 million to expand its Patalganga site in India and build a new enzyme production facility, with the expanded operation expected to be fully operational by 2030. The investment will increase production capacity as demand for biosolutions grows globally.

The Denmark-based company announced the project on September 2, saying the Patalganga facility will manufacture enzymes used across industries including biofuels, household care, and food and beverages. The expansion is also expected to strengthen the company’s global supply network and bring production closer to customers in India, the Middle East and Africa.

Novonesis said these markets form an important and growing part of its business and are expected to expand faster than developed markets in the coming years. The Patalganga project is therefore part of a broader effort to increase manufacturing capacity across its global operations.

The company has also expanded facilities in Rayong, Thailand; Franklinton, North Carolina; Taicang, China; Araucaria, Brazil; and West Allis, Wisconsin. Novonesis said the investments are aligned with its previously communicated capital expenditure plans.

The Indian facility will incorporate measures aimed at reducing its consumption of water and energy. Freshwater recycling is planned to lower the amount of fresh water drawn by the site, while integrated heat pumps are expected to reduce the energy required for operations.

According to Novonesis, the measures will put the facility on a path toward reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Chief Operating Officer Anders Lund said the company intends to apply experience gained across its existing production network to the Patalganga expansion.

President and CEO Ester Baiget described the investment as part of Novonesis’ longer-term growth strategy, while the company said the project is intended to improve production flexibility and supply resilience.

Once completed, the Patalganga expansion will add to Novonesis’ global manufacturing footprint and increase its capacity to supply enzyme-based biosolutions to customers across several industries.
