As both countries advance talks on a prospective bilateral trade agreement (BTA), India has dispatched its first trade team to the US in response to a recent US Supreme Court decision that overturned tariffs imposed during the Trump administration.
From April 20 to 22, the delegation, headed by Chief Negotiator Darpan Jain, will hold talks with the goal of completing the agreement’s formal foundation. The negotiations, according to officials, are an extension of the promises made in the joint declaration from February.
Recent events, such as new tariff measures and ongoing investigations into specific Indian trade practices by the Office of the United States Trade Representative, have complicated the negotiation situation.
India has reaffirmed its commitment to the agreement despite these obstacles, saying that the team is approaching talks with an open mind. It is anticipated that both parties will discuss trade-related issues and strive toward a formal conclusion.
In keeping with a common goal to strengthen economic connections while addressing new trade issues, the talks will also seek to set deadlines and next measures.
