Philips has introduced the Alturion ultrasound system, a new imaging platform designed for high-volume clinical settings. The system is now available in the United States and Europe after receiving FDA 510(k) clearance and CE mark certification, expanding the company’s ultrasound portfolio with AI-assisted workflow features and connected imaging capabilities.

Royal Philips has unveiled the Alturion ultrasound system, a new addition to its diagnostic imaging portfolio aimed at supporting healthcare providers managing increasing patient volumes and complex clinical workflows. The system is available across the United States and Europe following FDA 510(k) clearance and CE mark approval, the company announced on July 8.

The Alturion platform combines advanced imaging technology with artificial intelligence-enabled workflow tools to help clinicians perform ultrasound examinations more efficiently while maintaining consistency across different users and care settings. Philips said the system was developed to address growing operational pressures faced by hospitals and imaging departments without compromising diagnostic quality.

According to the company, Alturion is built on a processing architecture designed to deliver responsive performance and clear image visualization across a broad range of patients and examination types. The system includes a 24-inch display and a compact design that allows it to be used both in imaging departments and at the patient’s bedside. Its workflow features are intended to reduce manual adjustments and shorten examination times, helping clinical teams handle larger patient volumes more effectively.

Alturion is also the latest Philips ultrasound platform to incorporate Elevate Plus, which provides AI-assisted measurements for abdominal ultrasound examinations. The technology supports image acquisition, automates certain measurement tasks and promotes reproducible results, with the aim of reducing variability between examinations and assisting clinical decision-making.

The new system is integrated into Philips’ broader ultrasound ecosystem, using the same user interface and interchangeable transducers as the company’s EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound systems. Philips said this compatibility can simplify staff training, support faster onboarding and encourage standardized workflows across departments. The platform also works with Collaboration Live, the company’s tele-ultrasound capability that enables real-time remote support, consultation and training.
