Mumbai, India: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched what it describes as India’s first lights-out factory lab at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune, bringing together AI, robotics, digital twins and factory systems to demonstrate increasingly autonomous manufacturing.
The TCS Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab – Lights-Out Factory is designed to simulate self-optimising factories using the company’s Human+AI Service Autonomy Model. The facility combines digital twins, industrial AI, robotics, factory control systems and real-time operational intelligence for live manufacturing environments.
At the centre of the Pune facility is a fully robotic battery pack assembly line. TCS said the multi-stage production setup will allow manufacturers to prototype, validate and scale AI-first production systems in a controlled environment.
A lights-out factory refers to a manufacturing facility where autonomous systems can operate production with minimal human intervention. The new lab is intended to help manufacturers assess how Industry 4.0 technologies, AI and robotics can be translated into practical production models while reducing deployment risks.
The facility supports several industrial use cases, including predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimisation, human-machine collaboration and autonomous factory operations.
TCS said the Pune lab also brings together interconnected capabilities across engineering, manufacturing and factory operations. These include AI-enabled production optimisation, digital twin and simulation environments, vision AI, robotics, sensor-to-cloud industrial intelligence and software-defined engineering.
The lab is the latest addition to TCS’s Industrial Autonomy & Engineering innovation footprint. Earlier in 2026, the company launched an Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab powered by NVIDIA in Bengaluru, focused on Physical AI applications for industrial and mobility sectors.
According to TCS, the new Pune facility is intended to help manufacturers move beyond isolated automation projects and evaluate integrated approaches to engineering, manufacturing and operations.
