Bengaluru, August 11, 2026: CHRIST (Deemed to be University) and IBM have established an Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence to support AI research, education and skills development among students, faculty members and researchers.

The centre will give students, postgraduate learners, researchers and PhD scholars access to IBM enterprise technologies and opportunities to work on real-world applications. Its areas of focus will include generative AI, agentic AI, large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), intelligent automation and responsible AI.

Participants will be able to use IBM’s watsonx.ai, watsonx Orchestrate and IBM Bob as part of research and application development. IBM Bob is designed to support activities across the software development lifecycle, while the other platforms are intended for AI development and the deployment and governance of AI agents.

IBM Expert Labs will conduct practical training programmes for faculty members, PhD scholars and postgraduate students. Participants will also have access to IBM SkillsBuild, the company’s technology education programme, for learning and certification.

CHRIST Vice Chancellor Dr. Fr. Jose C C said the partnership would bring academic learning, research and industry experience together, with an emphasis on developing AI applications while addressing responsible and ethical use of the technology.

Siddhesh Naik, Executive Director, Growth Markets, Technology Sales, IBM India & South Asia, said the collaboration is intended to deepen links between academia and industry and contribute to the development of India’s AI talent pipeline.

The centre will also facilitate collaborative research, internships, industry engagement, hackathons and innovation challenges. Students and researchers will have opportunities to experiment with emerging AI technologies and develop applications across disciplines.

CHRIST University, which began as Christ College in 1969 and became a deemed university in 2008, currently has more than 42,000 students across its campuses in India, according to the announcement.
