New Delhi, India: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of bilateral and business meetings in Singapore on August 20, focusing on expanding cooperation between India and Singapore in trade, investment, technology and business.
Goyal began his engagements with a meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana. He later participated in the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) and the fourth India-Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR), where officials and business representatives discussed opportunities to strengthen economic ties.
The roundtables were followed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony. The discussions were aimed at identifying areas for further economic cooperation and developing opportunities considered beneficial to both countries.
During the afternoon, Goyal held Government-to-Business meetings with senior representatives from the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) and Keppel Infrastructure. The discussions covered potential collaboration in agri-exports, GCC-based commercial parks, fintech and sustainable infrastructure.
Goyal also visited an APEDA-FairPrice initiative at City Square Mall alongside Singapore Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry Gan Siow Huang. The visit highlighted agricultural trade between the two countries and efforts to expand market linkages for Indian products in Singapore.
Later in the day, the minister participated in the India-Singapore Business Forum organised by FICCI at the INSEAD Asia Campus. He joined a discussion titled “India in the New Global Growth Equation: Growth and Opportunity for Businesses in Asia and the World” and took part in a question-and-answer session with members of the business community.
The Indian delegation at the ministerial roundtable included Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada. Singapore’s delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and ministers responsible for national security, foreign affairs, digital development and transport.
The engagements were aimed at strengthening business-to-business connections and creating further opportunities for trade and investment between India and Singapore.
