India aims to boost defence exports with BrahMos-equipped warships for friendly nations.

India is expanding its defense export strategy by offering Next-Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) outfitted with the BrahMos missile to friendly countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Amid growing maritime security concerns in areas like as the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, the NGMV is being marketed as a low-cost, high-capability option for modern naval combat. The warship is designed for “sea-denial” operations and carries eight BrahMos missiles capable of accurately targeting both marine and land targets.
The battleship is designed with stealth elements to reduce radar and infrared signatures, as well as advanced defense systems such as VL-SRSAM missiles, close-in weapon systems, and short-range air defense capabilities to combat drone and missile threats.
Cochin Shipyard Limited is leading the project, producing six vessels for the Indian Navy at a cost of ₹9,804 crore. Export deliveries are planned to commence in 2027.
Potential purchasers include Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, as India expands its position in the global defense sector.
