Google Begins Work on $15 Billion AI Megahub in Visakhapatnam

An important turning point in India’s development of digital infrastructure has been reached with Google’s formal start of construction of its biggest AI hub outside of the US. Over the next five years, Visakhapatnam will develop the $15 billion project that was announced in October 2025.
The project will have a gigawatt-scale data center campus built to meet the demands of high-performance computing for AI-driven services like Google Search and Gemini. The initiative is a “full-stack AI ecosystem” designed to fuel next-generation technology, according to company leaders.
According to Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister Nara Lokesh, the project will assist establish Visakhapatnam as one of India’s top centers for deep technology and artificial intelligence.
Along with new fiber optic links to improve global connectivity, the city is also being built as a major landing place for submarine internet cables connecting Singapore and India. This is anticipated to boost economic security and strengthen India’s digital backbone.
The project highlights India’s expanding position in the global technology ecosystem and reflects the quick expansion of data centers throughout the world due to the increased demand for AI and digital services.
