Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw declared that India’s semiconductor goals will be accelerated, with four chip manufacturing units planned to begin operations in 2026. 

Speaking during the inauguration of Kaynes Semicon’s OSAT plant in Sanand, Gujarat, the minister praised the India Semiconductor Mission’s quick progress. He stated that other factories will be completed by 2027, with the country’s first semiconductor fabrication unit (fab) set to begin operations in 2028. 

Vaishnaw emphasized project execution speed, with the Sanand facility going from foundation to production in 14 months. He stated that India’s global competitiveness will be dependent on maintaining high quality and cost efficiency. 

The endeavor is supported by a developing ecosystem of machines, chemicals, gasses, and testing facilities. Over 60,000 engineers from 300 colleges have been trained in chip design tools, and Indian-designed chips are already in production. 

worldwide companies including as Nvidia, AMD, and Intel are increasing design activities in India, bolstering the country’s efforts to become a worldwide semiconductor hub.
