Mumbai, October 5, 2026: UltraTech Cement has crossed 2 gigawatts (GW) of installed green energy capacity for captive use after commissioning new wind and waste heat recovery capacity, the company said on Monday.

UltraTech commissioned 116.55 MW of wind capacity at its Inter-State Transmission System-connected wind-solar hybrid project in Barmer, Rajasthan. It also added 10 MW of Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) capacity at Sarlanagar Cement Works in Karnataka. These additions took its cumulative green energy capacity to 2,024 MW, making it the first cement company in India to cross the 2 GW mark for captive use.

The company’s green energy portfolio now consists of 1,580 MW of renewable energy capacity and 444 MW of WHRS capacity. Combined, these sources meet about 48% of UltraTech’s current power requirements.

UltraTech said the shift is also reflected across its manufacturing network. During the current financial year, nearly one-third of its 76 manufacturing units in India have recorded green energy utilisation of more than 50% of their electricity requirements. Five units have crossed the 95% level.

The company commissioned 430 MW of green energy capacity in FY26 and is expanding the use of battery energy storage systems to improve renewable energy utilisation and supply reliability.

UltraTech also said it has not invested in new captive thermal power capacity at its integrated units for more than a decade. In 2025, it operationalised an on-site hybrid round-the-clock renewable energy project at Sewagram Cement Works in Gujarat, combining solar, wind and battery storage.

The company plans to raise green energy’s share of its total power mix to 85% by 2030. As a member of RE100, it has separately committed to sourcing 100% of its electricity requirements from renewable sources by 2050.
