New Delhi, India: The Government of India has notified 11 additional international ports to facilitate the entry of foreign nationals holding e-Visas, taking the total number of international ports authorised for e-Visa entry into the country to 88.
The latest expansion is aimed at making India’s electronic visa system more accessible and improving the convenience of international travellers entering the country. The government said the addition further enhances the attractiveness and utility of the e-Visa facility.
With the latest notification, foreign nationals holding valid e-Visas can enter India through a network comprising 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 landports.
The government highlighted that India currently provides approximately 95% of e-Visa applications within 72 hours, supporting faster processing for eligible international travellers.
The expansion forms part of the government’s broader efforts to liberalise, streamline and simplify India’s visa regime. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, several initiatives have been undertaken in recent years to make visa procedures more accessible while strengthening India’s position as a destination for tourism and international engagement.
The newly notified international entry points include additional facilities across India’s airport, seaport and landport networks. The expansion particularly strengthens connectivity through land borders and selected international maritime and aviation entry points.
The e-Visa facility was introduced as part of India’s efforts to simplify visa procedures for foreign visitors. The facility is available across multiple categories, including Tourist, Medical, Business, Student, Transit, Cruise and Miscellaneous visas.
The e-Visa system currently covers a broad range of eligible foreign travellers and allows applications to be processed electronically before travel. The government noted that nearly 78% of India’s visas are now issued as electronic visas, reflecting the growing adoption of digital visa services.
The expansion of authorised entry points is expected to provide greater flexibility to e-Visa holders by allowing them to enter India through a wider selection of international airports, seaports and land borders.
The move also supports India’s broader objective of simplifying travel procedures and improving the experience of international visitors while strengthening connectivity with global markets and tourism destinations.
