Bengaluru, India: Indian space technology startup GalaxEye has acquired Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering company StarOps, bringing satellite platforms, spacecraft technologies and an experienced engineering team under one organisation as it expands its end-to-end space capabilities.
The acquisition marks a significant step in GalaxEye’s plan to become a fully integrated space technology company. StarOps traces its origins to TeamIndus, one of India’s early private space ventures, and brings engineering expertise covering the satellite development lifecycle from mission design through end-of-life operations.
Several members of the StarOps team previously worked at TeamIndus on its Lunar Lander and Rover programmes. Their experience will add to GalaxEye’s internal capabilities across spacecraft engineering, development and operations.
StarOps was incorporated in 2022 with a focus on developing satellite platforms and indigenising critical spacecraft technologies in India. Its engineering capabilities cover spacecraft systems engineering, mission operations, propulsion, avionics, flight computing, guidance and navigation, structures and mechanisms, electrical systems, programme management and ground operations.
The acquisition also adds a portfolio of qualified satellite bus platforms covering the 50 kg, 150 kg and 250 kg classes. StarOps brings proprietary subsystem technologies, qualification experience, testing infrastructure and engineering tools to GalaxEye.
According to the company, more than 66% of StarOps’ satellite systems have been indigenised. The technologies are designed to reduce dependence on global supply chains while supporting faster development cycles and lower mission costs.
The integration is expected to bring spacecraft platforms, critical satellite subsystems and Earth observation payloads together within GalaxEye. The company said this will strengthen its ability to develop integrated space solutions for defence, national security and commercial applications.
GalaxEye Co-founder and CEO Suyash Singh said the acquisition strengthens the company’s capabilities across satellite engineering and supports its ambition to design, engineer and operate advanced space systems from India for global markets.
StarOps Co-founder and Missions Lead Nirmal Suraj Gadde said the company’s focus has been on developing indigenous satellite systems and manufacturing capabilities. He added that the StarOps team’s experience will now contribute to GalaxEye’s plans to develop and deploy a constellation of OptoSAR satellites.
GalaxEye’s proprietary OptoSAR technology combines Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical imaging to provide Earth observation capabilities in different weather and lighting conditions. The company is developing vertically integrated space technologies for defence, national security and commercial applications.
The acquisition forms part of GalaxEye’s broader strategy to develop indigenous technologies across the satellite value chain. By combining StarOps’ engineering capabilities and spacecraft platforms with its Earth observation payload technologies, GalaxEye aims to accelerate product development, deepen vertical integration and strengthen its ability to deliver space missions from concept through operations.
