Uno Minda to Invest ₹320 Crore in Maharashtra Seating Systems Plant

Gurugram: Uno Minda Limited has approved a ₹320 crore investment to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, marking its entry into the complete four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment. The new plant is expected to begin operations by the fourth quarter of FY28 and will be operated through the company’s joint venture with Japan’s TACHI-S Company Limited.

The decision marks a significant expansion of Uno Minda’s automotive components portfolio as the company moves beyond manufacturing seat recliners to offering complete passenger vehicle seating systems. The project was approved by the company’s Board of Directors and is aimed at strengthening its presence in a higher-value segment of the automotive supply chain.

The upcoming manufacturing facility will be developed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra, with an estimated capital expenditure of approximately ₹320 crore. According to the company, the plant will be established under Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, its joint venture with TACHI-S Company Limited of Japan, a global manufacturer of automotive seating systems.

Uno Minda entered into the partnership with TACHI-S in September 2022, initially focusing on the production and sale of passenger vehicle seat recliners. Building on that foundation, the company is now expanding into the complete seating systems business, a move expected to increase its value addition per vehicle and broaden its role within the automotive value chain.

The company also revealed that the joint venture has already secured an anchor customer order from a leading original equipment manufacturer (OEM). It said the order validates the venture’s engineering capabilities and manufacturing readiness to meet the quality and performance requirements of India’s passenger vehicle industry.

Commenting on the expansion, Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda Limited, described the investment as an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy. He said entering the complete passenger vehicle seating systems segment represents more than a product expansion, adding that it strengthens Uno Minda’s position in a key automotive category while reinforcing its commitment to advanced domestic manufacturing.

The new facility is expected to support India’s growing automotive sector by enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and delivering seating solutions designed to meet evolving vehicle and customer requirements.
