CALGARY, Alberta, June 15, 2026 – Questerre Energy Corporation today said that a recent test of its patented HCCO® oil shale technology, carried out at the PX Energy facility in southern Brazil, had positive results. This was the first time when the technique was assessed in a complete commercial-scale vessel, which was a noteworthy milestone that went beyond the previous laboratory-scale testing.
The accomplishment was a significant step in improving process effectiveness, cutting operating expenses, and bolstering the PX Energy project’s overall economics. Confidence in the HCCO process’s commercial potential was strengthened by the test’s successful validation of its engineering and technical feasibility at scale.
Building on these findings, Questerre intends to conduct a longer test to determine continuous operating settings necessary for widespread implementation. In order to reduce internal fuel oil usage and further improve the project performance, the company plans to adopt the HCCO technology at the PX Energy facility. A projected small-scale commercial demonstration facility is also being designed with the test’s findings in mind.
CEO Michael Binnion commented on this breakthrough and emphasized the significance of showcasing the technology on a commercial scale, pointing out that it takes the company closer to cost savings, better project economics, and wider commercialization of its oil shale resources.
With a dedication to striking a balance between societal expectations, environmental responsibility, and economic progress, Questerre is still committed to responsibly harnessing energy resources through innovation.
