PLI Food Processing Scheme Drives Double-Digit Sales Growth, Boosts Exports

Sales of subsidized products increased by 10.58% and exports increased by 7.41% under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), according to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

As a result of improved industry confidence and quicker project execution, investments under the initiative have surpassed initial commitments of about ₹7,000 crore, totaling over ₹9,000 crore. The program, which was introduced in FY22, intends to increase infrastructure, branding, and access to international markets in order to fortify India’s food processing ecosystem.

The initiative has also added processing capacity of 34 lakh metric tonnes annually and generated employment for over 3 lakh people, contributing to rural and industrial growth.

Millets have emerged as a key success story, with sales rising sharply from ₹345 crore in 2022-23 to ₹1,845 crore in 2024-25, driven by enhanced value addition and global demand for nutritious food products.

The scheme continues to support Indian brands in expanding their presence in international markets while strengthening domestic food processing capabilities.
