WhatsApp Expands User Security with “Strict Account Settings”

Strict Account Settings is a new security feature that WhatsApp has introduced with the goal of providing better defence against advanced cyberattacks. The tool is accessible to any user looking for extra account protection, even though it is primarily intended for people who might be at greater risk, such as journalists, activists, and public personalities.

By default, WhatsApp already offers end-to-end encryption, guaranteeing that messages can only be viewed by the sender and the recipient. By automatically activating the platform’s most stringent privacy and security restrictions, the firm is strengthening its defences with the launch of Strict Account Settings.

Once enabled, the feature reduces the risk of dangerous files or spyware being sent via unwanted messages by preventing attachments and media from unknown contacts. WhatsApp claims the setting is meant to shield users from infrequent but highly targeted cyberattacks that might evade common defences.

Since the functionality is being implemented gradually, not every user will see it right away. If it’s accessible, you can enable it by going to Settings > Privacy > Advanced in the app.

Additionally, WhatsApp confirmed it will implement Rust behind the scenes to enhance the security of user data, including images, videos, and messages. The move highlights the company’s continuous commitment to privacy and secure communication across its platform.
