New Delhi, India: The Government has outlined how the proposed expansion of National Highways 63 and 563 in Telangana is expected to improve regional connectivity, strengthen freight movement, support tourism and enhance access to key agricultural and industrial centres across northern parts of the state.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has detailed the expected impact of widening key stretches of NH-63 and NH-563, describing the projects as an important step towards strengthening Telangana’s transport network and supporting long-term regional development.
The road expansion covers more than 190 kilometres, including the Armoor-Jagtial-Mancherial section of NH-63 and the Jagtial-Karimnagar section of NH-563. According to the government, the projects involve a combined investment of Rs 7,597.16 crore. While the NH-63 stretch will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), the NH-563 section will follow the Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) model.
The upgraded corridors are expected to improve travel to several religious and heritage destinations, including Vemulawada Temple, Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Kaleshwaram Temple and the Nagunur Fort. Better road connectivity is also expected to encourage multi-destination tourism and generate opportunities for local businesses linked to hospitality, transport and related services.
The ministry said the highway improvements would also benefit agriculture and industry by improving access between farms, food processing centres, fisheries, Special Economic Zones and manufacturing hubs. Faster movement of raw materials and finished goods is expected to reduce logistics costs and improve supply chain efficiency across the region.
The projects are also designed to strengthen Telangana’s integration with the national highway network by improving links with NH-44, NH-363 and NH-163G, supporting smoother movement of passengers and freight.
According to the government, the upgraded highways are expected to reduce travel time between Armoor and Mancherial by about one hour and 30 minutes, while the journey between Jagtial and Karimnagar could be shortened by around 45 minutes. The expansion is intended to ease congestion on existing routes, improve road safety and accommodate growing traffic volumes as economic activity continues to increase across northern Telangana.
