As the business moves forward with intentions to enter the Indian small modular reactor (SMR) market, Tata Power is in talks with three state governments regarding its proposed nuclear power projects.

Tata Power CEO and MD Praveer Sinha stated during a post-earnings call that the business is now working on feasibility studies and creating detailed project reports (DPRs), which should be completed in the next six months.

The company is working with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) to coordinate project execution and approvals for two SMR-based nuclear plants, each with a capacity of 220 MW.

Although specific locations were not mentioned, Sinha stated that Tata Power is requesting state-level clearances for the water and soil testing activities necessary for the proposed projects.

In the meantime, despite a drop in overall revenue, Tata Power recorded an 8% increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,415.52 crore in the March quarter of FY2025–2026 thanks to lower operating expenses.
