An important turning point in India’s expanding influence in cybersecurity and digital governance has been reached with the country’s appointment as chair of the Common Criteria Development Board (CCDB).

The Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA), a widely recognized framework for assessing and certifying the security of IT products, is managed by the CCDB. By allowing member nations to recognize each other’s security certifications, the agreement contributes to the development of safe and reliable digital ecosystems around the globe.

The choice of India is a reflection of growing international trust in the nation’s institutional capacity and technical know-how in cybersecurity standards and digital assurance systems.

India’s position in influencing future international cybersecurity frameworks and standards for safe digital infrastructure is anticipated to be strengthened by the leadership role. Additionally, it is consistent with the nation’s larger emphasis on digital transformation, reliable technology systems, and independence in vital technologies.

According to experts, the action could help Indian IT and cybersecurity firms by boosting international recognition of India’s security certification ecosystem and promoting more robust international collaboration on secure digital products and cyber resilience.

The development strengthens India’s position as a global center for digital innovation and cybersecurity governance.
