Africa is emerging as a significant market for India’s exports of sweet biscuits, according to the Department of Commerce, which highlights growing international demand for Indian processed foods and growing trade connections with developing nations
The Commerce Ministry reports that during FY 2025–2026, India sold 344.2 thousand tonnes of sweet biscuits, indicating a consistent increase in value-added food exports. Indian sweet biscuits are becoming more prevalent in both established and developing international markets, according to the department.
India’s export expansion strategy is becoming more and more dependent on the rapidly expanding consumer economies of Africa. According to the ministry, the increasing popularity of Indian biscuits in African countries indicates more global acceptance of Indian food goods and deeper economic engagement.
Kenya is now India’s second-largest export destination for sweet biscuits among African countries, highlighting the continent’s growing significance in India’s processed food trade.
This growth coincides with India’s ongoing efforts to broaden its export markets and increase its market share in consumer goods worldwide. According to officials, the rise in sweet biscuit exports is indicative of the growing share of processed and value-added food items in India’s total export portfolio.
